For her, that connection is best exhibited by her live/work studio in Los Angeles. Divided between four floors, natural light beams in through windows and down staircases, bouncing off the white walls. In addition to the kitchen and bedroom, it includes her dark room and library, and she has a store of film and paper tucked away in the garage. The eye for detail that she brings to her photography also translates to her home, which is carefully curated with handcrafted and antique items. The frames and albums are all handmade. “Even the Tequila in the cabinet is artisanal,” she remarks with a laugh. It is also where she gives her annual art show each December—something she’s done for the last 14 years. As happens with so many creative endeavors, though, the original concept evolved on the day of the shoot and the team added more dynamic visuals by incorporating tighter shots.
